Next Meeting: Saturday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. in
the second floor meeting room of the St. Albans Public Library, 4th
Street at 6th Avenue. Wade Stiltner, WV bee inspector, will be our
featured speaker and talk about treating our bees for Nosema Cerana.
New Vice President: Dale Harbert
has taken on the responsibility of KVBA vice president and will be
in charge of planning our programs. If you have an idea for a
program, Dale will appreciate it if you call him (304-984-0408) with
your suggestion.
KVBA Newsletter via e-mail: We
have begun a new system of getting our newsletter to our members.
All of you who give us your e-mail address will receive the
newsletter electronically. Sending newsletter electronically will
save our association approximately 50 cents each member per mailing.
Ag Day: West Virginia Department
of Agriculture will sponsor the annual Ag Day at the state capitol
on February 26th. It is important that as many members as possible
attend to inform the legislators of the importance of honeybees to
our food supply and to solicit their support.
Workshop at Wooster, Ohio: This
two-day workshop sponsored by the Tri-County Beekeepers Association
and the OSU Extension service will be held on Friday and Saturday,
March 5th and 6th. This workshop is known for the large number of
venders selling bee supplies and for having nationally known
speakers. More information will be available at our February
meeting.
West Virginia Beekeepers Association Spring
Meeting: Cabell-Wayne Beekeepers Association is hosting
the annual spring meeting and has planned an exceptional program for
Saturday, April 10th. Speakers include Jerry Hayes, Tom Webster,
Larry Conners and Carl Marcum. Meeting begins at 8:00 a.m. at the
Heritage Museum and Village in Huntington. Cost is $10 per person
for registration and a hot lunch. Check should be sent to Gabe Blatt
at 3554 Haneys Branch Road, Huntington WV 25704 by March 26th.
Reminder: 2010 dues are $12 for
a family membership. If you have not paid your dues send a check
payable to Kanawha Valley Beekeepers Association to Allen Leadmon,
Route 4 Box 251, Hurricane, WV 25526.
