Association and $6.00 remains in our local association. To

Association to the treasurer, Larry Lipscomb, 138 Pinch Ridge Road,
Elkview, WV 25071.
West Virginia
Beekeepers Association:
It is important that we are
members of the state organization because we can do much more as a
larger group of beekeepers than we can do as individuals. Each year
members visit the legislature on Ag Day and deliver honey bears to
each legislator and explain the value of honeybees and needs of
beekeepers.
As a result of these efforts money was
appropriated that provided for free corn syrup and sugar at reduced
prices to beekeepers. Registered beekeepers can also participate in
a cost-share program of 3-pound packages of bees for $25. These
will be delivered in the spring. The third benefit of the
appropriation is free mite treatments (most likely Apigard) that
will be distributed in August.
Heartland
Apiculture Society: This is something you should not
miss! It will be held this year at Marshall University on July 10,
11 and 12. It is a great opportunity to learn beekeeping skills by
choosing from 65 presentations and instructions in a live bee yard.
Leading beekeeping suppliers will also be there to show their
wares. It’s educational, enjoyable, inexpensive and close to
home... Check out details at
http://www.heartlandbees.com for further information.
