Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be at 10:00 A.M. on
Saturday, July 18th in the second floor meeting room of the St.
Albans Public Library, 6lh Avenue and 411 Street. We hope to have
Wade Stiltner speak about the options for earlier treatment of bees.
We will have information from the US Department of Agriculture Farm
Service Agency about insurance that is available to beekeepers that
would partially reimburse beekeepers for loss of colonies and a
failed honey crop.
June Field Day: We held another
successful field day on June 13lh at the home of Teresa Locker and
Gerri Simmons. We discussed queen installation, making splits, pros
and cons of different kinds of honeybees and mite control using
treated shop towels and menthol. After lunch we went to the bee
yard. We opened hives, suggested what needed to be done, talked
about integrated pest management and demonstrated marking queens.
Kanawha Valley Beekeepers thank Teresa, her sister, niece and Gerri
Simmons and all those who brought food and made our field day such a
pleasure.
We Need Your Help: Our
association is again planning to have an information booth at the
Kanawha County Fair September 10-13 and we need you to help spread
the word about our beekeepers organization. Friday, September 11th
is School Day and we need beekeepers to spread the word to the kids
about the importance of the honeybee for pollinating our food and
how beekeepers help to keep the honeybees alive. Call Steve May and
tell him he can count on you. Our association will not be meeting on
September 12th as previously scheduled. Watch for a notice of the
new date.

WV Beekeepers Association Fall Meeting: Mark your

and visit with other beekeepers and hear nationally known speakers.
Why not plan to enter the Honey Show?
Our Sympathy: We send our

Julia. Paul and Julia were active members for many years.
Note: Kanawha Valley Beekeepers
