MONTH  EVENT DETAILS

THINGS TO DO THIS MONTH

JAN January 27th - Agriculture Day at the WV Legislature

January 29th
 - 8:30am-4:00pm - Honeybee Expo 2011 -
Sponsored by Mid-Ohio Valley Beekeepers Association and the WV University Extension Services.

Place: West Virginia University, Parkersburg, WV

Check your hives on warm days for honey stores and Nosema. Be prepared to feed and or treat. Feed pollen substitutes to stimulate brood rearing.

FEB February 5th - 10:00am-3:00pm - WVBA Executive Board Meeting - Weston Sizzlin Steak House - Severe Weather date Feb 12.

February 12th - KVBA Meeting

Continue to check your hives on warm days for honey stores and Nosema. Feed pollen substitutes to stimulate brood rearing. Be prepared to merge colonies if needed. Assemble new equipment and repair the old.
Order package Bees for desired delivery date.

MAR  

Check for queen right and diseases. Move brood nest down, replace bad comb.
Continue to check your hives for honey stores. Feed sugar syrup to stimulate spring build-up. Merge weak colonies if needed. Get ready for April splits.

APR April 9th - West Virginia Beekeepers' Association Spring meeting, Princeton 4-H Grounds Princeton WV.

April 16th -  KVBA Meeting

Inspect hives for congestion, good brood pattern. Prepare for swarming. Make splits to prevent swarming. Watch for early blossoms and be prepared to put on supers. Install package bees. Remove medications from hives.

MAY  

Install new packages and/or queens. Monitor hive growth and bloom. Super or split to avoid swarms.

JUN June 4 - West Virginia Day

June 11th - 
KVBA Meeting
Continue to watch for swarms.
JUL   Add supers or harvest the gold.
Requeen if necessary.
AUG August 12th-20th - WV State Fair

August 13th -  KVBA Meeting

August 27th-28th - WV Honey Festival
Super up for goldenrod.
Harvest or add supers. Watch for stress.
SEP September 23rd-24th - West Virginia Beekeepers' Association Fall conference, at Jackson's Mill, WV. Are your the hives ready for winter? Each hive should have at least 45 to 60 lbs of honey stored.
Remove supers and begin treatments.
OCT October 8th - KVBA Meeting Protect your supers from wax moths, feed light hives, install entrance reducers.
NOV November 5th - 10:00am-3:00pm - WVBA Executive Board Meeting - Weston Sizzlin Steak House Time to relax and plan for next year.
DEC December 10th -  KVBA Meeting Don't forget your Apiary Registration for 2012
